Discussion of Bonds' press conference

Postby KolbSaves » Tue Feb 22, 2005 7:08 pm

"all of you have lied, should you have an asterisk behind your name when you write a column?"

"go clean your own closet before you come after mine"

"alcohol is long overdue that we should ban that"

"I don't know what cheating is, I don't believe steroids will help you in baseball"

This guy is freaking insane.

Hmmmm true but do reporters have millions of kids looking up to them. Barry cheated and lied = bad role model for kids :-t

What else is there to say aside from the fact that Bonds is a liar, a cheat, and a disgrace to the game of baseball? When he passes Ruth and Aaron it will be an absolute freakin travesty.

Actually, I probably should clean my closet, it's a mess in there. Thanks Barry! He should consider recommending trash takeout and floor sweeping at the next press conference. It'll help us all get some chores done, anyway...

That quotation is one of the oldest logical fallacies in the book, known as Tu Quoque.

Whether or not reporters have lied, or other players have taken steroids or anything else has nothing to do with if Barry has taken steroids.

The logical statement that "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" is a fallacy.

For instance, if I call someone a spoiled brat the truthfulness of that statement is not dependent on whether or not I am a spoiled brat.

See, thats exactly what reporters do. They take quotes, and put some spin on them. I watched the whole press conference, and I didn't hear anything that made me think he was insane. He was talking with the reporters.....not talking to the reporters, which is what most players do.

I'm not saying Bonds didn't do steroids, or that he isn't a jackass. In fact, I dislike very much, and hope he retires before he reaches Aaron. But, theres no reason to try to look behind the meaning of a certain quote.

"alcohol is long overdue that we should ban that"

.....thats his opinion, why is that so strange?

"I don't know what cheating is, I don't believe steroids will help you in baseball"

.....neither do I, but I still think it should be banned.

"all of you have lied, should you have an asterisk behind your name when you write a column?"

.....I think some reporters should have an asterik. All they print is filth, and they have no desire to print the actual news....just gossip.

"go clean your own closet before you come after mine"

....ok, this is one quote that I admit was a little strange. He knows he's in the spotlight, and will have to answer questions so this quote really makes no sense.

I didn't get those out of an article, I wrote them down as I heard them live.

"alcohol is long overdue that we should ban that"

My point was that he was deflecting the issue away from steroids.

"all of you have lied, should you have an asterisk behind your name when you write a column?"

again, this has nothing to do with the issue at hand, see my previous post about tu quoque

"go clean your own closet before you come after mine"

....ok, this is one quote that I admit was a little strange. He knows he's in the spotlight, and will have to answer questions so this quote really makes no sense.

this goes along with the previous quotation, it was said in the same answer
