Hmm ... CWilson as catcher?

J.R. House - C - Pirates
Dr. James Andrews confirmed that J.R. House would need shoulder surgery. The procedure is scheduled for today.
House has two tears in his labrum and one in his rotator cuff. He's expected to miss the season. Feb. 22 - 3:57 am et

Okay, so this leaves 'Gramps' Santiago at catcher for the Pirates. Makes one wonder if Craig Wilson might spell the old-timer enough to gain C eligibility under Yahoo's new 5-game rule?
All I know is Wilson's value jumps exponentially if he can be plugged in at catcher. Any Pittsburgh denizens are welcome to weigh in with any info you're reading.

Very slim chance. Humberto Cota is the backup, and he's expected to get the Santiago sit-down start days. :-/

House was just another minor league guy that we ruined before he had a chance to become good. :,-(

It'll be Santiago or Humberto Cota ... no Craig Wilson.

But, if Santiago goes down for any amount of time, Wilson would possibly get those 5 games at Catcher.........he is their 3rd Catcher.

There's also Ryan Doumit, the Pirates' top catching prospect.

Well, I suppose it is possible they would throw Craig in to catch a few games if Benito gets hurt (or traded to a contender)...at least they would have his "bat" in the lineup and get Daryle Ward or whoever else in the game. I am hoping that Cota works out this year though...the guy has some pop but hasn't had enough AB to show what he can do.

I doubt they would bring up Doumit unless it was a September callup. For some reason we are now stockpiling catchers...Doumit, House, and Walker (last year's 1st round pick) are all C's. :-?

Wilson's bat is too important to the Bucs to put behind the plate. Unfortunately the Pirate management will not take into account what we fantasy baseballers would like to see ;-)
