Do you like to draft sooner or later (date not draft order)?

Postby fiz » Mon Feb 21, 2005 7:22 pm

Though I've played for a while, this is my first year as a fantasy baseball commish and I'm wondering generally what people like regarding when to set the date of the draft. Nobody in my league seems to care so I just have to pick. Yahoo has dates ranging from Feb. 23 to April 2 (the day before opening day) and I was wondering what your preferences are. Right now I set it as April 2 (the day before opening day) so that closerss/injuries/lineups/etc have all kind of been settled...thanks for any input.

Personally, I think it depends on how active u think the league owners are.

I always want to draft as quick as possible because it is so fun. And if you have active owners, u can still trade before the season begins.

I prefer drafting later because, as you said, I prefer accounting for as many of the Spring Training injuries as possible.

I like to draft at least two weeks prior to opening day. We usually make some trades even before the season begins and it is always fun to see who gets stuck with the guy who blows out his leg in spring training (unless it is you!)

If you're talking live drafts only, then I try to do those about 2 - 3 weeks before the season. It's not too early, but there are still some unknowns that a knowledgable person might have an advantage at.

However I mostly participate in slow, offline drafts, so those have to be taken care of rather early in order to be done in time for the season.
