C Jason Varitek
1B Justin Morneau
2B Chone Figgins
3B Scott Rolen
SS Derek Jeter
MI Chase Utley
CI Shawn Green
OF Manny Ramirez
OF Jason Bay
OF Hideki Matsui
OF Lew Ford
OF Austin Kearns
Util Joe Mauer

P Jake Peavy
P Mark Mulder
P Livan Hernandez
P Kelvim Escobar
P Bronson Arroyo
P Brad Lidge
P Danny Baez
P Justin Speier
P Ryan Dempster

Bench Alexis Rios
Bench Kevin Mench
Bench Tadahito Iguchi

So how is it?? I'm thinking of trading either Mauer or Varitek but what is it that I need the most? A speed player, a closer, or a starter??? Do you see any other trade opportunities i might have??

i think your pitching is very respectable. but i do not like who u got at 1st. at how deep that posistion is in power u got a speedster. i'd trade to get a power 1st baseman and stick figgins at your util. spot.

your team looks pretty solid....strong staff, word is that escobar is going to have a solid season, so dont drop him, and keep an eye on who he starts against....pretty good relievers, lidge is great and baez is solid... and if demspter gets the job in chicago youll be doing good in taht caregory
your OF is pretty solid, bay will prob have at elast as good a year as he did last year, if not better

persoanly i would deal varitek for a better MI than utley and move mauer into the C spot, hes going to have a great year

or if you have faith in iguchi put him there and trade varitek for a guy like corey patterson, that will give you 3 guys with great speed (figgins/patterson/iguchi) and will make your team solid overall

ummmmm morneau aint a speedster, hes a pure power slugger, i dont know what your talkin about there

anyway nice team, you have a very solid pitching staff that i like a lot, your offense i very well round, you might be down a little bit in stolen bases though, all you have for that is figgins and jeter(ford will get you a few) so id try to get a few more bench guys that can get you steals(i see that you have rios though, hell be good for steals)

Your team is pretty solid, not bad in the speed department, and not bad power either, your pitching is also pretty good. As far as I can see no real weaknesses and you should do well.

thanks for all the responses i appreciate it... i definitely know i need to trade one of my catchers. I got Mauer with like the 146th pick and he could easily be a top 3 catcher if he stays healthy. I'll probably monitor mauer in spring training and end up trading Varitek for someone who steals bases assuming Mauer has a good spring. Keep the responses coming if you have a suggestion on my team. Thanks alot

i like your team. You have solid pitching. Overrall, you have a young team which could be a positive or negative. I would look to put Varitek on the block. Mauer is gonna be great, and even if he gets injured im sure there are other catchers in the free agent department to fill a need. Most of the catchers are about equal this season, with the exception of 2 or 3. Other than that your looking good, just follow spring training.
