Which one of these strategies will work?

Postby AI8818 » Sun Feb 20, 2005 10:51 am

I am in a 12 team, 5x5, H2H league. I was looking over my team and for the pitchers you can have 3 SP, 2 RP, and 3 P of any kind. In the P slots for me I have Wickman,Buerhle, and Gordon as of now. What I was trying to decide is whether I should take out Gordon (who would supply me with good ERA and stuff) for a guy like Eaton. So it would either be Wickman,Buerhle, and Tom Gordon or Wickman, Buerhle, and Eaton. By the way, our league does not have holds, I would only use Gordon to even out my ERA and things of that nature.

12 Team, 5x5, H2h

C Ivan Rodriguez
1B Derrek Lee
2B Jeff Kent
SS Nomar Garciaparra
3B Hank Blalock
OF Vladimir Guerrero
OF Coco Crisp
OF Luis Gonzalez
Util Troy Glaus
BN Ken Griffey Jr.
BN Richard Hidalgo
BN Juan Uribe
BN Chris Burke

SP Roy Halladay
SP Barry Zito
SP C.C. Sabathia
RP Eddie Guardado
RP Keith Foulke
P Mark Buerhle
P Bob Wickman
P Tom Gordon
BN Adam Eaton

Assuming you're in a league with weekly lineup changes, I'd probably go with Eaton in your standard lineup, but use Gordon when one of your starters (not just Eaton) has a matchup you want to avoid. Both Gordon and Eaton have value, and you can certainly benefit from both.

It may be worth it to play matchups too, removing Gordon against teams who eat him up and putting in Eaton against matchups like Colorado in Petco and that sort of thing.

Since its H2H you are going to have to just play matchups. Not much more to it.
