How to choose a random draft order

How do you guys choose your draft orders? We want to have our draft order set before the draft so that we can all plan our strategies better. How can we select a random draft order?

Pick a Date, and assign everyone in your league a state in the Union which holds a three digit lottery drawing on that date.

You get something like this:

Team One.... Pennsylvania.....123

Team Two.....Vermont............927

Team Three....Ohio................795

etc.

Decide ahead of time if the first team in your draft is the lowest number or the highest number... if lowest, then in the above example, team one drafts first, then team three, then team two, ect.

Note: Visit a site like lottery.com to determine which states have three digit daily lottery numbers... have a plan for matching numbers (ties) and make sure your managers know if a high number is good (999 would mean you go first) or last.

And make sure you note which states have two daily numbers (like PA) and decide if your manager has the afternoon drawing or the evening drawing.

I do this every year for my league... my guys love it.

A low tech option: Have a non player draw slips of paper with team names out of a hat. Write down the order they come out of the hat. Thats your draft order. Have a witness or two.

Carefully weigh the skills and weaknesses of the players in your league, then set the order so as to most benefit your team and draft. Then declare that since you're the commish, you get to pick the draft order.

Best low-tech option ever: have your toddler pull #s out of a hat. I've done it for three years with my five year old (tried it when he was 2, and he drooled over all the papers, so I had my mom do it).

I'm a commish of a 12-team league. I do the order wih a witness:

I take a set of 12 playing cards of the same suit. Each team is assigned a card. Shuffle well. Then going 12 to 1 I start flippin'.

The way I like to it is have one owner send a list of the team names in some order and have another owner send a list of numbers (i.e 1-12 if it is a 12 team league) in some random order. The best way to do it is find two owners on AIM at the same time and ask them to do it real quickly and do not tell them what you are doing so they do not have time to get together or anything. Then you combine the lists, and you have a random order.
