Carrying two catchers?

I tend to draft two catchers, just in case someone goes down or takes a day off. Last year my money league catchers both fell in the same game (Mauer & Lecory). So I snagged Hernadez and D. Miller and I was ok for the rest of the season at catcher. I like to keep two cacther, but I was wondering if anyone else does the same and what their strategy was about picking them. One AL and one NL? Same Division? What do you guys have to do to get their catcher position filled for more than 162 games of the season.

I think it depends on your roster size. Last year our league bumped it up to 23. With that size, you have the luxury of carrying 2 catchers.

As a principle, I think it's smart to carry 2, because there are so many games that catchers sit out. The easiets situation is if you have Varitek ... always sits w/ Wakefield, and you plan on inserting catcher #2 into your lineup that day. Same w/ Barrett and Maddux.

It just kills me to have an empty spot in my lineup, with a guarantee of no production.

Unless I get a top 8 catcher I prefer to go with someone who plays everyday with Catcher elgibility. like brandon lidge this year or as you said mcleroy last year. something like that. the bad thing is swapping catchers like i did last year and you put in a brad ausmus to bat and it ends up hurting you more than helping you. so dont have a warm body in there, get a fit for your team.
