Maintaining my Lead

Postby Guest » Fri Sep 13, 2002 11:38 am

Hello,

I'm currently in 1st place in a 10 team 4x4 league by 5.5 points. I'm wondering if I should make any lineup changes that will make me maintain my lead. I had a couple injuries come up in my batting lineup so I'm wondering who I should replace. Here are my statistics:

Batting
BA (1st) .2860 (2nd place team has .2855 close race)
HR (1st) 313 (2nd place team has 288)
RBI (1st) 1041 (2nd place team has 980)
Steals (2nd) 143 (3rd place team has 132)

Lineup

Rodriguez, Ivan TEX C
Phelps, Josh TOR C
Bagwell, Jeff HOU 1B
Spivey, Junior ARI 2B
Chavez, Eric OAK 3B
Rodriguez, Alex TEX SS
Garcia, Karim CLE OF
Guerrero, Vladimir MON OF
Anderson, Garret ANA OF
Jones, Andruw ATL OF
Payton, Jay COL OF
Huff, Aubrey TB Utility
Young, Eric Utility

Jay Payton may be out for the rest of the year. Should I pick up David Justice? Bubba Trammell? Jose Guillen? Carlos Lee? Willie Harris?

Also, do you know the status of Phelps and Pudge? Should I risk dropping them this week and picking up a FA?

Pitching
ERA (3rd) 3.50 (1st has 3.20)
K (1st) 1151 (2nd has 1141)
S (7th) 73 (6th has 79)
W (2nd) 93 (1st has 99)

Lineup
Halladay, Roy TOR P
Lohse, Kyle MIN P (Pickuped just because 2-start pitcher)
Benes, Andy STL P
Wolf, Randy PHI P
Moss, Damian ATL P
Johnson, Randy ARI P
Lidle, Cory OAK P
Julio, Jorge BAL P
Urbina, Ugueth BOS P

I've been rotation 2-start pitcher in one of my spots, but I haven't caught up to the 1st place team in Wins. Do you think I should go back to three closers and try and catch the saves guy? Also want to protect my K's lead. What do you think about Julio the rest of the way? Tough schedule so maybe I should drop him and pick up Eischen from the Expos or Williamson from the Reds. Do you see any changes here I should make that would be good to keep my lead in K's and also improve in ERA, Saves or Wins. Let me know. Thanks

First off, congratulations on being in first! ;-D

Justice looks like the best OF to pick up, but check to see if Juan Encarnacion is available. A lot of people forgot about him following the trade to Florida, and he may be on the wire.

Phelps and Pudge should be fine, although Pudge may get a day off more often than you'd like. Still, stick with your top-notch tandem.

I'd drop Julio for Williamson, but whether to go back to three closers is difficult. With your lead, I'd probably keep using two-start pitchers in order to protect your strikeout lead and keep the pressure on in wins.

Anyway, nice team, and great job managing it! Keep us posted on how things turn out.
