Draft Day Dilemma

Postby Slammerz » Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:58 pm

:,-( Have you ever had a draft where it seemed like every player taken before YOUR TURN was the player that you were going to take?

Im in a 10 team (NL only) Keeper league. We can keep 6 players
My Keepers Carlos Beltran
Corey Patterson
Shawn Green
Mark Loretta
Eric Gagne
Brandon Webb

At first glance. My intentions were to Draft Pitching first...
After all I need 4 SP's.

I have the 11th and 14th overall pick.

So the Draft begins and not surprisingly Pedro Martinez was picked first. Then Tim Hudson... Mark Mulder, Roger Clemens, Javier Vasquez are all picked! Carlos Lee and Carlos Delgado were picked as well. My Draft Strategy sheet looks like a war zone with all the red lines! Enough lamenting.

Guys I now need some strategy advice. It seems like all the elite Pitchers are all gone. all that are left are middle of the pack type Pitchers. Which leads me to the conclusion that I should now focus on HITTING. I have 3 guys picking before I do. Im thinking that if he is Available I should pick either Chipper Jones or Aramis Ramirez and Jimmy Rollins........... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-?

:-? Was it necessary to leave the bold type up? Ow, my head.

Anyway, if you don't see an upper-tier pitching option, bag it til later. Grab the best available, period. In this case, Aramis ... with Beltran and Patterson you've got enough of a steals base to let Rollins slide.

I dont know if your league allows but what I did last year was beef up on hitting and grab the hot pitchers that were on waivers or free agents each week, it got me to the championships but lost in the final round due to an injury prone infield. If not id grab a power hitter and stay away from rollins, chipper might not last so look to other sources. You always got trades!

How did you end up with 11th pick in the 10 team league?

don't reach for a player - take Aramis Ramirez if available then go with the best available player.

What about closers?

I knew someone was going to question how I ended up with the 11th pick in a 10 team league. I traded my 1st rd pick last year for Carlos Beltran. The 11th pick is the first pick in the 2nd rd.

As far as closers I have the Best closer in the business with Eric Gagne.

I do think Aram is the way to go as well... I hope I get him

Catcher Position is real thin in the NL
as is S/S.............. any thoughts?
