4th round - Who to draft?

12 team, standard 5x5 league.

I've got my first pick of the draft coming up in the 4th round (4.2). My keepers from last year are Pujols, Santana, and Crawford.

Give me your top 3 out of the following and maybe some guys you think I should target in the 5th and 6th (5.9 & 6.2).

I'd sub Delgado for Lidge IMO.

With Pujols and Crawford you have an excellent offensive base, if you can couple them with a Santana/2nd Stud starter you should have tons of flexibility heading into the meat of the draft. Any of the three SS would make excellent picks if you could grab them in the 5th.

Hey dude... ive never played roto so i dont know how much this means(i only play pts leagues) but i gotta say that if it was me id pick o. perez. Its a bit of a gamble, and lidge my be the safer choice... but u got the chance to have a superb staff right now. So it really depends on what you think you need. I think delgado is out of the question. pick up hitters later, either pick up lidge whod be nasty for saves or perez who could be a huge steal here. I consider him to be a #1 pitcher, and along with santana ud have a nice 1..2 punch. Ive always found that having 2 dominate stud starters is the best way to go(it worked for me last year with schill and schmidt) but as i said i only know how it works in pts leagues.

If I've worked it out right, it's a 10-team league, so 16 players will be drafted between your first & second picks.

What I would do is target two hitters, then take a good 2nd tier SP in the 3rd round.

I would take Chavez first time round, then (if available) one of

Young
Giles
Blalock
Ramirez
Lee
Rollins
Dunn
(in that order)

There should be plenty of excellent SPs available for your 3rd pick.

I would draft Sheets if he's still available, and I also like the Delgado choice. Lastly, if those two are gone, I guess I would take Giles.

One thing I want to warn you to do is take in how deep some of those positions really are - and they are deep. I would pass on any 3B at this time since you will more than liekly be able to grab one of similar value in the next rd. At this point you draft those players who will get the best stats regardless of position.

I wouldnt count Crawford as an offensive threat other than steals and SBs. If you think of him as a base stealer and draft accordingly, your team wont hurt if he doesnt repeat a 20HR season.

Ok I know Delgado is tempting, but you already have Pujols and you need to fill non-utl slots first. So you have to grab Chavez even though I think Delgado is better offensively.

Having a power 3B is a plus for your team. Power OFs are easier to get and you can always get a power or speed guy of any position for your utl slot.

Grab a pitcher next. Surely there are better pitchers available.... Buehlre, Oswalt, Clemmens,...?

I like Marcus Giles, but I have him more of a 5th rounder (40's overall than a 4th rounder. Really depends which way you want to go but I would look at Giles, Young, Chavez and Delgado for the next pick. Chavez is the more conventional pick. I would not worry about positions as that is a fools bet early in the draft. I would be more concerned with which of the 4 is the best bet to put up very good numbers. The first 2 derive their valuations in part because of the positions they play. The latter two are pure value picks.


Then look to grab best SP avail next go round with Sheets and Zambrano being the 2 to target. Zambrano has been falling to the fifth round and is a fine pick there IMO.

That is what I was thinking...except I would take Giles over Chavez....
