A Yankee fan friend of mine has offered me a pretty substantial bet stating that he'd put A-rod's triple crown numbers (AVG, HR, RBI) up against any other player in the AL. Best 2 out of 3 wins the bet, the question is do I take the bet, and if so who???? Vlad, Tejada, Manny??? any suggestions....a little off topic I know, but who cares right

Take Vlad and you will be fine. Manny would probably be my other pick for you.

I believe Dans misunderstood you, even though your thread is quite confusing. He thought you got 2 players against Arod, whereas I believe you're saying, whoever wins in 2 of the catz wins the bet. What happens if there is an injury? I'm guessing you're cancelling it? Anyways, I think Manny could do it, but his RBIs just jumped back up again last year after two seasons right around 100, but his avg. dove considerably after striking out a bunch more. Arods HRs dropped last year, but they should jump back up I would GUESS. Anyways, I wouldn't be comfortable taking Manny. As far as Vlad goes, he should easily beat Arod in Avg., but you just never know w/ HRs and RBIs. He outperformed Arod in both, but I just see Arods #s coming back up. It has to be one of those 2, but it is anything from a sure bet. If you like to gamble, do it now, but I'm guessing he won't let you take Pujols, haha. Personally, I would take Vlad, but Manny is right there too.

Vlad or Manny should match up very well against Arod.

I think the average goes to either Vlad or Manny.

I think the HR total would probably go to Arod.

It’s the RBI that’s the tossup. If I had to pick one (like you do) I’d say Manny because of Fenway and the lineup he hits in. He’ll have more opportunities than Vlad.

I'd take that bet with either Manny or Vlad.
I think Vlad gives you the best shot as he should easily win BA.

I'd go with Manny for similar reasons. I think both Vlad and Manny will beat Arod in average. Manny should have the edge in RBIs over Vlad.

I actually think Manny will again out homer Arod.

While Arod's home/away splits last year weren't that great (he hit 19 homeruns away, 17 at home), when compared to prior years, I think they could be.

In 2003, he hit 21 road homers, 26 at home.

In 2002, he hit 23 road homers, 34 at home.

Now, it could be just a coincidence, but it seems that Arod's homers were inflated by Arlington. And Yankee Stadium hurts right hand hitting.

I don't see him hitting 40 homeruns this year. Will Manny or Vlad? I don't know. But I think Manny has the better shot.
I'm back. Sorta.

Do not boo Johnny.

Take Manny.

But don't forget about Sheffield as well as Vlad. This should be an interesting competition.
