Josh Phelps (1B/DH - TB)
Jose Cruz Jr (CF - ARI)
Can anyone give me some information on either of these guys?
I know both are on new teams this year, but will either start? And if so where will they hit in the lineup? I think both have the talent to be solid fantasy contributors but will they get the At-Bats? And what kind of numbers do you think they will put up?

I've read that the leadoff spot is Cruz's to lose come April. They probably wouldn't have dealt for him if they didn't plan on starting him, but plans do of course change.

Rotoworld has the up-to-date depth charts and has Jose Cruz Jr starting in CF over Luis Terrero. Josh Phelps has the DH job in TB according to rotoworld also. I don't know about fantasy numbers though. But I do know I don't want either on my team.

So given 500 At-bats you dont think that Phelps could 30 Homers?

I'd say 25 HR's would be more likely and with barely a .250 avg.
He hit .261 and 17HR's in 103 games last season but many of those appearances came when he had favourable match-ups.
He still hasn't learnt to hit right handed pitching (.210 in 219 AB's in 2004) and is only of some value as a bench spot starter when he has a favourable match-up.

Which is what, a 1/10 of a season. He'd have to do "pretty well" for a little bit more than that before you'd considering drafting him in your UTIL spot.
Actually, he had 11 hits in 20 AB's including 16 RBI's, in the first 10 days of July before the All Star break. Against Blackly, Moyer and Hendrikson (all lefties). He then went hitless in 20 straight AB's after that.
