Ok, assuming that the usual suspects are selected in the first four picks (Pujols, Beltran, A-Rod, Vlad), who do you take fifth? Do you go with Tejada based on position scarcity or do you take Helton, Soriano...etc?
I'd go with Abreu, Manny or Crawford probably... drafting right after the big 3 kinda sucks though. From 4 to 10 is pretty much equal in talent IMO. I'd just judge the competition and guess what position/stats will be able to be had for a steal later on. If guys are SB crazy and you know Pods and Pierre will go too early, grab Crawford. It's a tough spot to be in though.

Yeah, it is tough. Obviously, I'm not going to see another pick for quite awhile and I will have to anticipate taking a starter there. The last of the top notch starters will be gone, if they aren't already by that point. This is standard 5x5 roto.
Go with Tejada. I like Crawford but im not sure what the hype is with him and a first round pick.
Compare Tejada and Crawford
AVG - .311 VS .296 so about equal
HR - Tejada Hits 30-40, Crawford hits 10-15
RBI - 100 + VS 70 + or - a few
SB - 0 VS 50-60
Tejada is clearly more valuable without being a shortstop, that just adds to his value. Crawford is by no menas worth a 1st round pick given how many outfielders there are.

I agree... plus why is everyone so much higher on Crawford than Ichiro? Sure he's younger, but Ichiro should cross the plate 120 times next year. Also, Juan Pierre should be running like crazy this year, and may finish ahead of Crawford in the rankings. I can't fathom taking Carl Crawford first round. I'd go with Tejada, Abreu, Manny, or Soriano here.
Ichro won't get as many runs as most people think he will... no way he comes close to his OBA last year where he still came in 37th place in runs I think it was. The lineup help will raise that, but still, Ichiro will only steal half thr bases of Crawford. Ichiro's BA will be much better than Crawford's. Everything else is pretty much equal. Are the extra 30 SB's worth the 40-50 points in BA? IMO, yes. I'd much rather have Crawford.
As for Crawford vs Tejada, his SB's hlp a LOT. They'll be close in value, but just because Crawford isn't a power hitter doesn't mean he can't be ranked higher than one fo the best power hitters. BA will be close, R will be close, HR and RBI obviously Tejada wins but the SB's more than make up for that IMO.
But really... a lot of players have around the same value from 4-10. Don't sweat it too much.

Alright, that is probably the worst spot to select in, especially in an 18 team league. Is there any possibility of trading down? I would highly advise this in your instance. You won't get another selection for 26 picks, man alive, whereas you could trade down and get abreu or soriano later in the first round. In the case that you must draft, I would probably select tejada.
