Ambiorix Concepcion

So... Anybody got any information on this kid? He's not going to be here for awhile, but he's looking pretty good down in short-season ball.

Who is he? Where did he come from?

He seemingly came out of nowhere last year. I know that Baseball Weekly recently ranked him as our #4 prospect behind Milledge, Petit and Bladergroen (prior to the trade). Most other rankings I have seen usually have him in the Top 5 with Hernandez and Humber (prematurely) above him.

He's only 21 (which is awesome if true) but I have read doubts about his age ala Pujols and Soriano. And the fact that Scouts.com compares him to Vlad makes me giddy. There were also some reports that during the Manny negotiations the Sox were requesting Concepcion not Petit like was being widely reported.

well the mets are going to need concepcion to move quickly up the minors considering they added him to their 40 man roster this past november...as far as his future, the 21 year old is none too impressive to me right now,,,, he k's about 1/5 of the time last year and his stolen base rate is not great either,,but no need to worry just yet.... i think he really needs to blossom out this year as the tools are there, too have a chance to become a adequate player for the mets in the future.....
