WIRELESS MODEM

Postby SuptownSpartans34 » Mon Feb 14, 2005 9:27 pm

Okay, computer guys...

I am looking into getting a wireless cable modem. I need this to connect to my computer, Ps2 modem, and possibly another older computer. Is it possible for the wireless to connect to all three of these? Does anyone have any other knowledge about wireless modems, or input on what I need to set myself up with? Thanks.

What you want probably is a wireless ROUTER. then you connect the cable modem to the router, and you also need wireless network cards in all the things you want to run wirelessly -- I know they're readilly available for PCs and laptops at any computer or best-buy store. Not sure if you can get a wireless card for Ps2, as I'm not into those (I'm a GameCube guy myself) :-)

Alright, thanks Pacman. I meant to put router, but couldn't come up with the right term. So the router will wirelessly connect with any number of things? Thanks for this info, it has helped me out so far......

i use a netgear router but u might want to get linksys becuase i think they have a special thing for video game systems
idk..i jsut use it for my computers

also just know that wireless can be a pain in the ass because sometimes the signal get knocked out with a cordless phone or evern the microwave
i got mine when they first started coming out so the newer ones might not have this problem
but make sure u ask them about that cause it can be really annyoing

if u want to connect two PC's and a Ps2 WIRELESSLY
You need
2 Desktop Wireless Cards
1 Game adpater
1 wireless router
1 Cable modem

heres the game adapter:

Pc Cards:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... pe=product
Wireless Router:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... pe=product

and whatever cable modem u currently have

if one of the comptuer is going to be connected with wires then just buy one less pc card

also jsut check the specs for the older computer to make sure everythigns compatible

also just chekc with the people at best buy to make sure all this is right
it should be though ;-D

Netgear and D-Link are teh suck, especially D-Link. :-P The only router you'll ever need: Linksys WRT54G. Runs off of Linux-based firmware, and thus there have been numerous user-written firmware tweaks and upgrades. The best wireless router you can buy. ;-D
