What do you expect from Carlos Guillen in '05?

I think he's one of the better SS in the league, but most people don't give him enough credit. I think that has to do with Guillen being injured for much of his career and the Tigers being so bad for so long.

There's no doubt that the Tiger's recent history springs to mind when people think of projections. People tend to do this for all sports, college and pro. This kind of thought never sits well with me. I mean, I could understand it if the same players were coming back, but to compare the 2005 Tigers to even the beginning-of-the-year 2004 Tigers is silly.

I can't see why Guillen wouldn't have at least the same type of season that he had last year. He's got talent and I think he likes the new leadership-type role he has with the Tigers. Fantasy-wise, in my opinion, he's a second-teir SS along the lines of Furcal, Cabrera, Lugo, and Matsui and is only this low due to injury concerns.

There are two things that worry me about Guillen.
First is that he has a history of injuries problems and is comming off of a knee(?) surgery. They say he should be ready by opening day, but that is just talk at this point.

The other thing the worries me is that he had a great season last year and could be over-valued. I don't know his career stats, but I don't think they matched last year's production. Will he be able to do it again? The Tigers have a lot of players who had their best seasons last year, I don't expect them all to repeat it this year.

All that said, I wouldn't feel bad about having him on my team if I could get him in the middle rounds.
