how low would Vlad's numbers have to be for position scarcity to be that much of a factor. I mean forty to fifty basis points higher in BA isnt enough?
Depends on Vlad's other power cats probably. I'd say Vlad's higher average is counter acted by Soriano's position. That would leave them to duke it out in the power cats and steals. Probably would be close if Soriano can somehow rebound. I'm not saying this will happen by any means, I'm just saying that it's possible.

Soriano is not going to steal more than 20 bags if that and the reason is that torn hammy at the end of the year.
