quick contract question

Postby Cornbread Maxwell » Thu Feb 10, 2005 11:48 am

I am interested in knowing about AJ Burnetts contract - anyone familiar with it? Am I wrong in thinking the Marlins basically have to deal him soon?

Further - where can I get accurate up to date contract info for all players? Anyone care to share a link?

as far as I know he just signed a one year deal January 18th so after that he's a Free agent.

The only news I found after that was:

Feb 06, 2005 - 9:04 am
A.J. Burnett indicated that he might be willing to take a three-year, $21 million contract from the Marlins to forego free agency, but the team offered only $16 million over three year

''Hopefully, when I start off 9-0, they'll bring me another contract,'' he said. Burnett will likely get $10 million per year as a free agent should he make it through this season healthy. He remains a big injury risk, of course, but we'd certainly take him over Eric Milton or Jaret Wright for the next three years.
I think they will make a move to keep him since there is a stadium deal in place and the $21 million seems like a good deal to me.

I like his Confidence:

''Hopefully, when I start off 9-0, they'll bring me another contract

My guess is if it's the other way around he might take that 16 million. I agree though, 21 mill for 3 seasons is a nice bargain for him.

Dugout Dollars is the best I know of. It's usually accurate and mostly up-to-date but it does have some errors.

I like Dugout Dollars too but they don't have contracts from the current offseason updated yet (for instance, Beltran is not on the Mets page, that kind of thing.) If you're looking for the status of a contract that was signed since the end of '04 I don't know of a good site. Does anyone?
