Jason Kendall or a closer?

Postby Carey Saders » Wed Feb 09, 2005 2:10 pm

If anyone can give me their input, I'd be grateful.

It's the 11th round of a keeper league draft. I draft dead last each round. So far, here is my team:

C -
1B - Albert Pujols
2B - Marcus Giles
3B - Troy Glaus
SS - Derek Jeter
OF - Vlad Guerrero
OF - Shawn Green
OF -
Util - David Ortiz

SP - Ben Sheets
SP - Carlos Zambrano
SP - Josh Beckett

Anyway, our league counts BB and HOLDS in addition to the normal 5X5 set up.

I'm thinking about Kendall because I have so much power it doesn't matter if he hits home runs or not. The fact that he plays so much and that he has posted a .399 OBP the last 2 years makes me think he'll help me to compensate for Glaus.

BUT I don't have a closer yet. Closers that are available:

Looper
Takatsu
Ryan
Graves
Baez
Cordero
etc.

Most teams have 1 or maybe 2 closers. They're really spread out.

You'e loaded on offense, grab a closer. I'd say Ryan first, then Takatsu. Unless that's F.Cordero (doubt it) in which case he's #1 obviously. If it's C.Cordero... let somebody else have him.

I's agree, I think getting a closer earlier as opposed to later will suit you better, especially given the list of who's left.

And I actually like Kendall, he worked out well for me last season. But I think you have more need for the Closer at this point.

I like LBJ's opinion on the closers, too. ;-D

Take either Looper or Ryan. I like Looper this year, his K rate went up, he has solid ratios and he should get more saves on an improved Mets team. Ryan should be good too, but he may not have the closer makeup AKA like Latroy Hawkins (I believe he blew 4 out of 7 save ops last year?)

I would take Kendall...he's gonna be getting on base infront of abunch of guys with good SLG% (he's projected to bat 3rd this year) so rbi #'s should increase as well.

I wouldn't pass up a sure thing on offense for a second tier crop of closers, these type of guys pop up regularly all over the place over the course of the season.

If you are a micro manager who keeps up with latest news you should have no problem finding some free closers.

I'd go with a closer here - it's what you need. Although I do look for Kendall to post pretty good numbers this year - stolen bases down and home runs up.
