He didn't play last year, he'll miss at least the first month of 2005, he has no offense, and he's in a park where righties will tee off against him. I don't blame them for being down on Pettitte. Loaiza also won 21 games 2 years ago, so I won't put too much emphasis on thsoe wins. Having NY as your offense helps quite a bit too.

Pettitte year in and year out has been one of the best pitchers in baseball....Miss the first month of 2005? I didn't here that..can i see some proof? I thought hes ready to go. Loaiza and Pettitte are totally different..
He's had one good year since 1997 (Good meaning actually good; not just a 4+ ERA that happened to get 21 wins from the Yankees' offense, which he no longer has) and that good year lasted only 22 games. He's been injured a lot over the past few years (missed 29 GS over the past 3 years; that's almost an entire season) and is now in a park that's hell for lefty pitchers. No park other than Wrigley is such a launching pad for right-handed hitters than the band box in Houston. Righties are going to eat him alive there, as they would any lefty.
And as for his current status, this is from an article written on Sunday:
"Andy Pettitte's elbow won't be ready until at least a month into the season. Pettitte's time together with Clemens may be short indeed."
Didn't mean to turn this into a Pettitte thread, but hey go with the flow.

nonononono.
He's a cancer that truly hurts you more than helps you. Maybe in fantasy point style leagues where his %s wont hurt you I can see drafting him, but for roto style leagues stay away - very far away.
guitar - his career WHIP is a 1.38. That has such a negative impact on your %s its crazy. His K rate is below avg for a fantasy pitcher too. Then you add in things like park effect and injury issues...
Just stay away and let someone else pay for the name.
Wow, I never realized how extreme the split in Minute Maid Park is. Here are the Park Factors for HR's, based on the 2004 season and divided into lefties and righties:
Lefties: 60 (By far the worst in the majors)
Righties: 140 (Second best in the majors)
So all you people who thought MM was a hitter's park, ya better watch out if it's a lefty hitter you're targetting there! This could explain why Beltran did so poorly there last season.
