Come on now...an AL Rookie of the year over Hideki Matsui is a stiff? Who would have thunk?
Oh yeah, the rules got bent to suit the anti-Yankee crowd or he never would have won in the first place...What is good for Suzuki is apparantly not good for Matsui. How many of those writers look like fools now?

Angel deserved the ROY award. I know it seems like a crime whenever a Yankee doesn't win an award, but it went to the right player.

Say that often enough and maybe you might start to really believe it., esp when a couple of writers admitted voting for Berroa instead of Matsui because they did not cnsider Mstsui a rookie even though he was under the rules. You do not like the rules, change them. If it was good for Suzuki to get the nod, then it was for Matsui and the numbers if anything favor Matsui.

I think you need to recheck your numbers. Keep complaining enough about it and you might feel justified. Matsui plays for a small market team and the vote wouldn't have even been as close as it was. Suzuki was far and away the best player his rookie season. Matsui was comparable to Berroa but played a much less demanding position.

1- They dont like giving "rookie" awards to japanese players who are technically already veterans. Japanese players have to do a lot better than a regular rookie to get the award. Ichiro got a good # of SBs. That put him over the top.
2- When faced with a yankee rookie and another rookie with similar numbers, the other rookie wins out if hes on a weak team. As its harder to produce good numbers on a weak lineup than it is on a starstudded Yankee lineup.
