Top 50 Outfielders

Postby Bobblehead » Fri Feb 04, 2005 10:10 am

Please critique the below rankings I have come up with for a H2H 5x5 Yahoo league. These are what I believe to be the top 50 OFs.

1. Vlad
2. Carlos Beltran
3. Manny Ramirez
4. Bobby Abreu
5. Gary Sheffield
6. Bonds
7. Jim Edmonds
8. Carl Crawford
9. Miguel Cabrera
10. Hideki Matsui
11. Moises Alou (batting in front of Barry)
12. Ichiro
13. Adam Dunn
14. Johnny Damon
15. Corey Patterson
16. Carlos Lee
17. Vernon Wells
18. Aaron Rowand
19. JD Drew
20. Garrett Anderson
21. Magglio Ordonez
22. Brian Giles
23. Juan Pierre
24. Jose Guillen
25. Sammy Sosa
26. Lance Berkman (nagging injuries?)
27. Luis Gonzalez
28. Steve Finley
29. Andrew Jones
30. Geoff Jenkins
31. Jason Bay
32. Trot Nixon
33. Preston Wilson
34. Brad Wilkerson (too high?)
35. Tori Hunter
36. Raul Ibanez
37. Nick Swisher
38. Scott Podsednik
39. Larry Walker
40. Kevin Mench
41. Jermaine Dye
42. Willy Mo Pena
43. Richard Hidalgo
44. Dave Roberts
45. Casey Blake
46. Pat Burrell
47. Eric Byrnes
48. Ken Griffey
49. Matt Holliday
50. Randy Winn

I am not confident with this list. Please help.

I'd drop Edmonds, Alou and Damon some. You seem to undervalue SB. Pierre needs to be bumped up.

I think you have Swisher a little high, he may be good this year, but I don't think he should be drafted as a starter... (he is number 37 which would put him just outside of starting in an OF slot in a 12 team league, but you have to assume that the majority will have an OF or 1Bmen in the Util slot). Also, Wily Mo doesn't have a starting spot at the start of this year... I think that people like Hidalgo (hitting in that TX lineup) and Burrell are a little low. And where is Kearns, I know he is injury prone, but so are Jermaine Dye and Kevin Mench, and I don't think either of them has the power potential that Kearns has.

IMO Alou is WAY too high, regardless of Bonds. Drop about 15 spots -- Edmonds a spot or two too high; Carlos Lee, Vernon Wells, and Pierre could move up a few... all in all, not a bad list at all.

Good Luck

i think that beltran is better than vlad, bonds should be higher. at least above sheffield. i like edmonds a lot, but i don't know if he should be that high. i'd drop him a bit. alou is not going to do as good as you seem to think. ichiro should be the highest japanese player on this list. he had an icredible year last year, and his stats will only get better (besides his BA, but who knows?). i think that garret anderson could be higher on the list. same with pierre and podsednik. podsednik can just dominate the sb category, and ibanez is good, but he can't win you a category like podsednik can. im a big jose guillen fan too. id bump him up a couple spots. he flies under the radar a lot, but he is a .300 30 100 guy. he's legit and extremely undervalued. good list overall though!

Jeff926, I have taken note of your post and have moved up all the speed guys (Crawford, Ichiro, Pierre, Podsednik & Roberts). I moved Edmonds and Alou down. Ichiro is now above Matsui. Thanks for your input! :-B

I agree with the Alou 'haters'...ha ha. Alou was way high. Edmonds could move down a bit because of injury history and the fact that he probably had his career year and will fall back somewhat...
I am not a Corey Patterson fan either. Stevie Wonder could draw more walks than Patterson...Patterson has the Bonds mentality with the Juan Pierre body....that might be an exaggeration, but you get the picture.
