Now you will have to set up an IMAP account in T-Bird and use: "imap.uky.edu" as the incoming and use "smtp.uky.edu" as the outgoing.
Let me know if this works.
I think it worked. I can now receive messages, but I'm not sure I can send them. There was no where to enter the outgoing "smtp.uky.edu". I think I may have messed it up when I added my Gmail account somehow. I'm going to try a reinstall and see if I can get that cleared up. I think the setup in the tutorial was for someone wanting to access just their gmail account with T-Bird so gmail was set for all the defaults. Of course, I could have no idea what I'm talking about too.
OK, this makes no sense at all. I went back this morning and tried to add the stmp.uky.edu to the outgoing server, but it says that only one is needed. How does that work? Seems like you'd have to have a unique one for each account -- just like there is a unique incoming server. I obviously am missing something, but could that be part of the reason I can't send messages with the Uconnect account (uky.edu)?

Haha, good...because I was stumped.
So now all 3 of your accounts are working?
I deleted all the profiles I had and started fresh and everything's working except that I can't send mail from the engr.uky.edu account. I can read them so I've got something crossed up I guess with the server names. I'm going to take this one up with them since they only show you how to use Eudora and Outlook . Thanks again for all the help. I'll be sure to let you know if something else screws up.
I'm going to make some assumptions and then base my suggestions off that.
I'm assuming you're trying to send mail from you school account from your physical home. My guess is you have the SMTP server configured to be "smtp.uky.edu".
I go to UCSB, and I had a similar problem sending mail from my school based accounts from home with Mail programs (i.e., it didn't work unless I went to the web based mail server). I found out that my ISP at home had to be configured as the outgoing server for it to work in Thunderbird or Outlook Express (which I used to use). Out here in Cali, we use COX cable, so the smtp server has to be configured as "smtp.west.cox.net".
You might want to check with you home ISP to see what they require the outgoing server to be. Set this up in Thunderbird as the outgoing server and you should be home free, assuming your working from home.
Yeah I am trying to do it from home, so that may be it. I'm going to call the university people first since I'm not 100% I even have the correct outgoing server entered (it's not explicitly listed on the website, so I could have that wrong). If that doesn't work I'll see what my ISP says.

ditto, i couldn't get my sbc acount to work. sucks because i love mozilla firefox and am sure this is a good mail server.
