Corey Patterson or Johnny Damon?

Patterson.... 24 HR 72 RBI 32 SB .266 AVG--Age 25

Damon.... 20 HR 94 RBI 19 SB .304 AVG--Age 31


Looking at 2004's numbers you'd say Damon, but as a huge red sox fan I dont see Damon's power numbers remaining that high and his RBI's will likely fall since he had 27 more then '03, and 31 more then '02...

So I pose a question to Cub's fans....Is Patterson on the incline or the decline?

And who is more valuable this year?

Patterson - 20/20 likely this year - 25 yrs old
Jones - power but avg needs work - 27 yrs old
Damon - SB and avg solid, but pwr is ??? - 31 yrs old

How many teams?

In a 10 Team league
Patterson 9th rnd
Damon 10-11 rnd

In a 12 Team League
Patterson 7-8 rnd
Damon 9-10 rnd

I would take Damon over Patterson.

i really like both a lot, but i would have to go with Patterson

If Patterson can learn some plate discipline he would be a great choice but if your league uses AVE or - points for SO he will do more harm than good.

Good question.

I like Damon to actually come very close to last yrs numbers. The HR stats were out of the norm for him, but when you look at where he is in his career, it really isnt that much of a stretch to see that he has replaced some of his speed with power. Now, you also have to look and see that not only did his HR total go up, but his SB total went down. I see him as being very close to putting up a 20-25-.300 season in '05. Compared to Patterson, who should hit a few more HRs and steal a handful more bases, it gets interesting. The real difference comes down to BA - and that has to go with Damon. For that reason I will draft Damon before Patterson this yr.
