Whats the story with him?

He pitched 11 starts for Seattle to end the year at 6-3 3.27 60/33 k/bb
1.21 WHip

There hasnt been a peep about this guy.

Is there any potential here?

He's got a spot in the rotation, as long as he doesn't blow in ST.

Late in the season, he got smashed against Texas and the WhiteSox in hitters parks but pitched 3 gems at home against Oakland the Angels and Boston. I'd expect these gems to be fewer and far between this year, with familiarity.

He's never been rated that highly. His record in Double A was solid enough without anything special. His K's were good but he did have control problems at times. I'm sure in most leagues you could get him off the WW for spot starts at home without having to waste a late round draft pick on him.

I'm kind of intrigued by the guy, actually. I know he was in independent ball a couple years back, and is a Lakota who comes from way off the radar.

Being in the NW and subject to Mariners games on local TV, what I noticed about Madritsch was his poise and focus on the mound. While the rest of the team (Ichiro excepted) spent '03 peeing down its collective leg, this kid kept it together every trip to the mound, through good and bad.

The AL may do some catching up to him, but he may do some improving of his own. In my 14-teamer, I'm willing to burn a late pick to find out.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!.....I personally haven't been talking about him for a reason.....I don't want guys in my leagues to even think about him.....the fewer people that consider him a viable option the better..... ;-D

The dude sports some righteous tats and added a little chutzpah to a fairly bland Mariners bunch last year -- looks more like an old Piniella-type player who might crack a beer now and then rather than sitting down with Melvin for some milk and cookies . . . but hey, Melvin's in Arizona now so wudda I care?? :-°

Look at his minor league stats. There's nothing there. He gets very few Ks. Basically, he is a very poor sleeper candidate. He is not worth the gamble at all. Don't be a sucker; he'll get hosed this season.

I drafted him in y 12 team keeper. Why not take a flyer on the kid? I hear people saying not to waste a late pick on him. Heck, it's a late pick, not a make or break pick. If he comes out of the gates looking like he did last year then I'll be able to insert him into my lineup. At the very least, give him a few home starts in Safeco. If he bites it, I'll just drop him for the hot pitcher with a home start against a very bad team. So what I'm saying is that if you're curious about the guy, draft him.

He was 27 years old last season, so he's not a total kid. Seems like he's been a winning pitcher at every level he has been at the last 2 years. While his stats aren't dominating, an ERA under 4.00 most certainly could be expected from him this year. His K/IP probably won't be as high as they were in the Minors. Possibly serviceable in the .7 to .65 range.

I like the upside of Bobby Madritsch. If that Seattle lineup turns out to be money well spent, The Madman will get his share of wins. (Well he needs a nickname because I seem to always mispell his name and besides, he looks like a madman with those tats.)
