Is Magglio the last big time FA still unsigned?

Here is a new article that basically says the same thing - no face to face, no workout, not willing to sign Maggs to long term deal he insists, and basically no Maggs:

Dan Davis on ESPN Radio just reported 10:41 am est 1/31.05 that the Cubs are not invited to watch Maggs work out in California. They better get invited.

yeah - that workout was a rumor that I believe started in the CHI media. There is no scheduled workout - no team has seen him workout, and chances are he gets a deal without ever privately working out for anyone. Not saying I agree with it, but thats what it looks like at this point.
There were also rumors that the Cubs were going to get a face to face with Boras and Maggs - much like the Tigers did last week - but thats rumor as well. There has been no meeting for the Cubs and there is no corroborated evidence that one is scheduled.

edit - It was Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune that wrote an incredibly bad piece on the Cubs and Maggs full of inuendo and guesses with 0 factual basis or sources to confirm the rumors he was starting. Im pretty sure thats where the added hype regarding Maggs is coming from. At this point no one in the Cubs organization has expressed a desire to the media to sign Maggs to a 5 yr deal, however this doesnt stop journalists from speculating and trying to hide their speculations as newsworthy.

It is hard to believe anyone would sign Maggs without a phycial and a workout. Boras has to be Houdini himself to pull that one off. That or there will be major escape clauses in the contract for the team.

As to Phil Rogers writing articles not based on fact and full of guess work, ineundo and probably leaks/wishful thinking from Chicago management...isn't that what Peter "the Boston Schill" Gammons has done for decades to earn himself a place in the HOF for "journalists"/"writers"? Only real difference is Gammons has done it so well as to get into Baseball tonight and ESPN with his "if I throw enough rumors out there, eventually one will be right" nonsense.

Hard to believe, but its the truth. Boras is the modern day version of Houdini - the guy is simply the best agent in all of sports. Like him or dont, its not the point. He gets the absolute most for his players be it through crooked negotiations, media leaks, or pure hype. Im positive he and the Tigers were in cahoots in driving up prices for some of his other FAs the last couple yrs in exchange for getting preferential treatment in negotiations for his AllStars coming off injuries.

As for Maggs contract, there will be multiple performance and health incentives - thats a given. DDombrowski wouldnt touch him without it.
