Says here that the powers that be in DET are looking at Maggs to be on the roster this year. Although just rumors, it seems MIke Illitch is still illitchin' to become the AL Central's next champ....although I can't understand how Maggs or Boras could possibly think that a 1 yr deal in the cavern in Detroit could possibly help his numbers....only imo though

It would be nice to get another big bat, but i wish they would get another solid pitcher. It would be nice to have him but i think he is a injury risk.

I woulda given you extra points if you said "...it seems MIke Illitch is still itchin' to become..."
But still, nice one
And if Maggs goes to Detroit... it hurts his value quite a bit instead of going to Texas or something. Going form the best HR park in baseball to Comerica, yikes!

It would be for 3 or 4 years - incentive laden so that DET wouldnt be hurt too bad if his injury is worse than expected - much like the Pudge offer from last yr.
As for signing a SP - I disagree. The SP FA market was insane this offseason, and the organization's strength is actually in their young pitching prospects. DD would have caught some major heat if he had fallen for the Lowe trap or some other outrageously crazy multi yr deal for a SP projected to be a #3 at best. We already have a #3 in Jason Johnson - I think we learned our lesson there.
Maggs would give an already decent lineup a serious upgrade:
Sanchez
Guillen/Infante
Pudge
Maggs
DY
White/Monroe/Higgy
Pena
Infante/Guillen
Inge
If we do sign Maggs, it probably will trigger another deal - basically shipping White and a prospect for 3B help - at least thats what the rumors are.
As for Detroit attracting talent - that is such hogwash. Illitch has proven time and again he can get the top players aroung the NHL to take a shot at a title in Motown.
Also - maybe you havent heard about the new Detroit- not only do they have the Casino's and beautiful new parks, but their Mayor is a pimp.
By the way CB... where does your infatuation for Infante come from? You put him there for #2 in the order in front of Pudge, Maggs, and Dmitri Young. He's been really horrible the past couple years, and other than a spike in HR has done nothing to make me think that'll change. I know you follow the team closely but what potential do you see in him that nobody else sees? It must be something, but I'm drawing a blank.
