can they sign Big Ben instead of this Ben? I bet he'd earn some platoon time in the OF... (though not a pitcher after the last few games...)

i think the pirates are just trying to find a way to NOT use tike redman every day. they're just taking the less-than-direct approach.

which is a mistake IMO

he started off slow the first six weeks or so but then played quite well after that

granted he isn"t going to set the world on fire but he has good potential

he's mediocre at best in CF, and despite his decent BA in the 2nd half last year, he has absolutely zero power and sees among the fewest pitches in the major leagues per AB :-P

His OBA will probably be better than everybody in the Pirates' lineup except for Jason Bay and Matt Lawton. I wouldn't complain about getting him if I was a Pirates fan.
