Hello all,
After a long winter it's time to dust off the Fantasy Baseball League files and get to work. Im in a 10 team NL ONLY Keeper league. so figure the best 60 players are already taken.
My Keepers this year are Carlos Beltran
Corey Patterson
Shawn Green
Mark Loretta
Eric Gagne
Brandon Webb
I have the 11th,14th,24th,34th,54th...........picks in the draft.
Common strategy would suggest drafting my Pitchers first
though some say to build this team for Power
What would you do? Trying to figure out a sound Draft strategy
A little background 25 of the 60 players KEPT were Pitchers
this would suggest that the other teams will be concentrating on hitters. which gives me an oppertunity to grab my Pitchers. BUT some of the Hitters are Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Lee, etc
whats the best strategy for this TEAM any help is Appreciated TY
If that's who you ended up keeping, try to draft pitching, but if there isn't a guy who you feel will put up solid numbers this year, then take an ARam or CLee...
Patterson, Loretta, and Gagne are very solid keepers. Even with as limited a talent pool as 10 team NL Only league, who could you have kept over Shawn Green and Brandon Webb?
With your first pick the 11th I think you should take the best SP still out there and hope to get Aramis Ramirez 3 picks later with the 14th.
If you dont think any of the SP's still there with your first pick(11th) are worth anchoreing your squad then go ahead and take Aramis Ramirez (doubtfull, but what other hitters who are better might still be there?), or the best hitter with that pick and grab a pitcher with your 2nd(14th) pick.
BTW, Aramis is a better pick than Carlos Lee. He has equal or better numbers across the board except SB, but Patterson gives you a nice start on steals anyway.
"Son we would like to keep you around here but were trying to win a pennant this year."
Yikes! I missed Carlos Beltran the first time I read and replied to this.
Beltran leaves you looking even better than I thought with steals. Throw is Shawn Green as an OF'er and you have even more reason to take Aramis Ramirez over C. Lee if it comes down to those two.
"Son we would like to keep you around here but were trying to win a pennant this year."
I would go for Ramirez first, then go after some young SP, Beltran makes ur team an automatic top 3 team right off the bat, I like the look of ur team, how did you do last year????
Unfortunatly, I finish in the middle of the pack last year. 6th last year. I attribute this to Injurys to my starting Pitchers. I aquired
CARLOS BELTRAN mid season. Giving up my 1st rd in this years draft, Gambleing that he would sign with a NL team this year.
Which Thank God he did! This off season I traded Lance Berkman for ERIC GAGNE straight up. As for SHAWN GREEN I traded SP Randy Wolf and received a 3rd rd pick which I packaged with my 5th round pick. I know I overpaid a bit, BUT I feel Shawn Green is going to have a Monster year here in Arizona (hence the proverbial "HOMER" pick. I'm a huge Diamondback fan which is why I kept BRANDON WEBB. Because I had no space on my Keeper list, I Traded SP Andy Pettitte for the 11th pick in the Draft and kept COREY PATTERSON and MARK LORETTA. thats the background of my off season. and my Keeper list. Now Im trying to figure out where I need to go in the upcoming draft.
You may be right. 25 out of 60 players kept in my league this year are SP's or RP's. so the top 25 pitchers are gone already. which leaves me the Cross over from the AL as the Pitchers Im looking at.
I could go for ROGER CLEMENS as he was left unprotected. but this is a keeper league. would it be wise to rent a TOP PITCHER for 1 yr
knowing he's gone?
Assuming ARAM or Carlos LEE is available at 11 would you Pick him?
or would you go for a TIM HUDSON,MARK MULDER,JAVIER VASQUEZ,DEREK LOWE?
