Millwood signs with CLE

Postby kimchi_chigae » Sat Jan 08, 2005 5:23 pm

from rotoworld.com:

Indians signed RHP Kevin Millwood, who had been with the Phillies, to a one-year, $7 million contract.
Millwood is guaranteed $3 million. If he spends 21 or more days on the DL for an injury to his shoulder or elbow sustained while pitching, he would lose 1/183rd of a $4 million signing bonus for each day on the DL, including the first 20. He can earn an additional $1 million in bonuses if he stays healthy. It's expected that Millwood will start the third game of the season for Cleveland. Jan. 8 - 1:44 pm et

guess the indians got what they wanted, help in the picthing staff. millwood didn't have a good year in philly last year spending time in the DL. anyone think he can bounce back this year or is it all downhill from now on?

My heart tells me he'll rebound and help propel the Tribe back into the playoffs.

My brain, on the other hand, tells me that he'll be mediocre and miss 6 or 7 starts while on the DL.

now how is that contract better for him then the Braves Guaranteed $5 million the Braves offered him?

He's in a terrible pitcher's park now and he's gonna suffer for it via ERA/WHIP

Oh well..another SP I can cross off my wishlist

I can't believe teams are willing to pay a guy who has had 2 good seasons out of 8 and been riddled with injuries a substantial contract. The number of years is right, but anything over 3 or 4 million is a stupid move I think.

I think its a good sign actually. He knows his stuff, helps the young staff, and goes to a terrible division.

Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!

No way is it worse than the park he's just come from.

I'd say his value goes up in Cleveland. That is a seriously weak division he'll be pitching in.
