What's your opinion on this? Does Mientkiewicz have a right to keep the ball? Just because he caught the last out?

And what is this crap about using the proceeds of the sale to send his kid to FSU for 4 years? What's the matter? Just barely gettin' by on that 2.8 million dollar salary you earned this year?

Doug is an idiot!! he should give the ball back!! i mean that ball means so much more to the baseball world then just money. thats ball is a symbol of the red sox nation and should be on display at fenway. retirement fund!! pppffff! he plays for the red sox for 1 season and he thinks he can keep the ball....maybe if pedro or manny caught it i would be a little more hesitant, but its rightfully the red sox's nation's ball.

After the game, Mientkiewicz said he put the ball in his locker, then gave it to his wife, Jodi, who put it in her purse. The next day, the ball was authenticated by Major League Baseball.

Wow. 8-o

How could he be thinking about keeping the ball when they just won the World Series? 8-o

I say give the ball to the Red Sox. It's not like he really helped earn it or anything:

Mientkiewicz, who batted .215 for Boston, was used primarily as a late innings defensive replacement

Shame that he's trying to cash in on the ball. :-/

Seems the writer might be a bit biased. Here's another thread about this story:

Don't try and tarnish what we accomplished with some petty arguement Doug :,-(
John Henry should just secretly give him whatever 4 years at FSU costs and avoid any more public embarassment. Then trade him.

Doug - you're going to remembered as long as Buckner, and in the same light - give back the ball

how can he keep the ball....wow he caught the game-winning ball....i think anyone could've caught that toss it's not like it was a great play by him....he hardly contributed and its such a major moment he is being so selfish..I think he should give it back before he goes in the Hall Of Shame.
