Biggio at 2b?

Postby TheYanks04 » Wed Jan 05, 2005 3:15 am

If Beltran signs with Houston doesn't that mean Biggio at 2b? If so where would he rank among 2bs?

Why?
Biggio played LF when Beltran was there last year and Berkman is out for the beginning of the season.

I heard Chris Burke was going to get the shot at 2B.

this is what i found on rotoworld

Astros GM Tim Purpura is leaning toward moving Craig Biggio back to second base in 2005.
We don't see Biggio being any better of an option than Chris Burke, but if the team is committed to playing him somewhere, second base might make more sense than left field. A final decision will be made after the Astros' offseason shopping

If you assume Beltran re-signs and Berkman is back by May, then either Lane or Burke are going to have to sit for Biggio to play. I would guess Burke sits.

baseballforecaster projects cburke 8-34-22 .275 and cbiggio 16-56-4 .271...i think the astros would be better off w/the better fielding burke at 2B

Phil Garner doesn't seem like the type of guy who is governed too strongly by logic. If Burke starts the season at 2B and Biggio in LF, my bet is that Biggio could be hitting .240 and Burke .280 and Biggio would still find himself the starter as 2B Berkman returns.

I cannot imagine a scenario where I would find myself drafting a guy like Biggio no matter where he plays.

Yet another guy who is better off being someone else's question to answer.

I don't care if Biggio moves back to catcher. You can keep him.
