Two Start Pitchers for Next Week

Postby Guest » Sat Aug 31, 2002 2:23 pm

Who do you of the following two start pitchers below has the best chance of performing next week (Sept. 2-8th)

Jason Jennings faces San Diego on the road and at home
Tomo Ohka faces against Philadelphia and in Atlanta

Based on my pitching lineup below, is it worth dropping either Andy Bense, John Lackey or Randy Wolf to pick up Ohka or Jennings?

Pitching Lineup:
Johnson, Randy ARI P
Lidle, Cory OAK P
Halladay, Roy TOR P
Prior, Mark CHC P
Urbina, BOS RP
Julio, BAL RP

Lackey, John ANA P one start next week at Batilmore
Benes, Andy STL P one start next week vs the Reds
Wolf, Randy PHI P one start at facing Montreal

My standing are as following. I'm a slim 0.5 points ahead of the 2nd place team in a 10 team 4x4 league. Here are my pitching statistics:

3rd in ERA (3.47) - 1st place has 3.38
1st in K (1047) - 2nd place has 1042
7th in S (69)
2nd in W (84) - 1st place has 91

What do you think? Thanks.

Actually, someone just picked up Ohka. What do you think about Jennings in this situation?

There are a couple more pitchers who I could choose from as two start pitchers. Andy Benes is schedule to start two times so I will keep him. Here are my choices:

Jason Jennings, Rockies: at Padres (9/2), vs. Padres (9/7)
Peter Munro, Astros: at Padres (9/3), at Dodgers (9/8)
Brandon Duckworth, Phillies: at Expos (9/3), vs. Mets (9/8)

Also, one start pitchers that have a good chance of winning are available:

Damien Moss, ATL: one start vs. Pittsburgh

Are any of these worth picking up for the week and dropping

Lackey, John ANA P one start next week at Batilmore
Wolf, Randy PHI P one start at facing Montreal

What do you think?

Ok - too bad about Ohka. Still, I think Munro, unproven as he may be, would be a good pickup (instead of Lackey) - pitching in those two parks certainly won't hurt. Duckworth has more talent, but he's been very erratic. Moss would also be good, and is a little less risky than Munro.

Bottom line: if you think you still have a shot in the wins category, go with Munro. If you're mainly concerned with era/whip, Moss is the better call. Either way, I like your thinking here.
