Mets offer Beltran

Postby Dude86 » Tue Jan 04, 2005 1:38 am

WFAN here in NY is reporting that the Mets are offering Beltan $120 mil for 8 years. I haven't seen or heard this anywhere else but they're usually a pretty reliable source.

That would seem in line with the salary he is looking for ($15-16 Mil) but is that enough years? This should be an interesting week with the Astros deadline coming up.

I'm not sure how valid this is since Omar Minaya isnt scheduled to meet with Beltran until tomorrow (Tuesday) but he did meet reportedly with Boras today

If the Yanks are truly out of it, then this is probably as high as he gets, if this offer is true.

That's a big chunck of change. My guess is he won't get that kind of money from Houston so the Yankees will probably offer him 10 years 150 million soon.

Sounds like a Boras rumor if I ever heard one. Beltran has until Jan. 8th to sign with Houston and after that a big bidder is out of the sweapstakes and low and behold Beltran gets an offer days before the deadline with Houston.

I'll say again what I've been saying. HE'S RETURNING TO HOUSTON. He has no interest in America's dirtiest city.

Let's keep the discussion about baseball. No need to pick on cities where people live.

I wouldn't count on the NY Times for any accuracy but I thought I would pass it on that they are reporting the Yanks won't go after Beltran.

If the Mets do sign Beltran they'd have 2/3s of an excellent defensive OF when Cameron comes back from his injury. With a lineup including Beltran, Piazza, Floyd, Wright, they could be competitive. If Reyes and Matsui give them anything they could be decent. They'd still need a 1B though.
Let's go Mets!
