Johnson traded to Yankees

LOL...in one of my keepers, the league champion in 03 made the mistake of keeping Prior, Vazquez, and Zito in the league. He finished next to last this season. Thank you Bill, went a long way towards me winning that league this year. A true testament to the folly of keeping lots of pitching.

If they do get Beltran then everyone in their lineup (except Wolmack) will be an All-Star :-o

Actually, Moose is still considered the #2.

Brown may get dealt, but I doubt it. No one wants him and his salary.

Giambi is hardly an AS at this point. Bernie's better days are behind him. The lineup right now stands at something like this:

#1 Tony Womack 2B (will likely go to #9 by May if not in ST, IMO)
#2 Derek Jeter SS
#3 Alex Rodriguez 3B
#4 Gary Sheffield RF
#5 Hideki Matsui LF
#6 Bernie Williams CF/DH
#7 Jorge Posada C
#8 Jason Giambi 1B
#9 DH

If Beltran signs then it would play out something like:
#1 Derek Jeter SS
#2 Beltran CF
#3 Alex Rodriguez 3B
#4 Gary Sheffield RF
#5 Hideki Matsui LF
#6 Bernie Williams DH
#7 Jorge Posada C
#8 Jason Giambi 1B
#9 Tony Womack 2B

This all presumes Giambi can play 1b regularly which is quite a jump. If he DH's it makes a mess of things. If he is hurt, a sub would have to play 1b.

Another thing is trading Navarro. Posada is getting older and they have no one now to plug in for him. Duncan may not be usefull at 3B with Alex here but he's a quality prospect from my understanding I wouldn't like to see him go. In the short term its great, but I'm growing a bit worried about this team for the long term. Rivera can't continue forever and drafting needs to be a bigger focus like it used to be when they found Jeter, Bernie, Rivera, Posada etc if they want to continue their success.

the voice of reason...

only time will tell if these moves are good or bad.

I still find it quality entertainment to see Yankee fans bashing Brown and Vaz and when I see Pavano and Wright ranked ahead of Brown I just smile.

No surprises so far.

Adios Javy (actually more like good riddance), don't let the slamming door hit your butt on the way out.

Vazquez and his gopher balls in Camden Yards and stil linthe AL East...batting practice.

i have a feeling you will be regretting the loss of vaz midway through this year...... :-b

I hate to see Vaz go, as I was pumped about him last winter.

However, when a Randy Johnson is available and would instantly go a long way to fixing the team’s one major weakness, I’m in favor of the move. There is a night and day difference in the reactions to a Yankee rotation with Johnson aboard than with Vazquez. Javy is still an unknown (debatable at best), Randy is not.

I think that Johnson will do a lot more towards the Yankees goals than Vazquez would do against them in an Orioles’ uniform.

And let’s be real. Javy had some mechanical problems and the Yankees’ coaching staff aren’t exactly the best at correcting them. His lower release point and arm angles weren’t going to correct themselves and the Yankees aren’t in the business of developing players.

Rotation will be...

RJ
Mussina
Pavano
Brown
Wright

I don't see them dumping Brown now with Milton and Duque gone, so he's going to be the 4th or 5th starter.

I like the deal, considering we finally have an ace who can dominate other lineups. The Yankee dynasty was based on pitching and with that staff, I think we are more than solid. We also now have a rivalry inside a rivalry with RJ facing off with Schill. Looks to be a great opening day!! ;-D

Hopefully they sign Tino and play him, whether Giambi is healthy or not. I want that guy on the team.
