With a non-guaranteed contract if the Cards release Alomar they aren't responsible to pay him anymore. As long as he is on the team he gets paid. If he gets released he doesn't get paid anymore.

Alomar's career sure went to the shitter quickly.

I think they're unsure of the everyday abilities of Hector Luna thus they signed Alomar as a backup option.

I thought Julio Lugo would of been a nice trade option for them (and move Eckstein to 2B), but I guess its not in the cards.

Alomar put up Hall of Fame numbers for about ten years of his career. He came to my team, and the bottom fell out.

He disgusts me now, because of how he helped set my franchise back. I hope he's cut at Spring Training.

Really not too excited about seeing Alomar joining my Cardinals (Oh that's right, I own them.) I believe the Cards are trying to pull another Tony Womack, sign a veteran on the downswing and hope to catch him turning it around. If Alomar posts a .340 OBP and plays defense I think Cards fans will be happy.

Only downside is the clubhouse factor. I'm not completely sure the Card's clubhouse is a blissful one (Don't think it really matters, and no fans truly know the state of their teams clubhouse), but hopefully this deal turns out well.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

might as well offer tommy herr a non-guaranteed contract or perhaps julian javier...04 stats--ralomar 171 AB 18 R 44 H 4-24-0 .262 5 errors at 2B..............hluna 173 AB 25 R 43 H 3-22- 0 .249 0 errors at 2B 38 yo vs 25 yo..

Tommy Herr rocked! B-)

stltoday.com is saying the the deal hasn't happened yet but the Cards are interested. Really the worst that could happen is the Cards are out $500,000 (That is if he makes the team and gets hurt). Best case we have Womack happen again.
