We've signed Brocail for one year, signed Chris Young, and signed Zimmerman who won't be able to pitch until at least May. In the meantime, we've also signed 2 catchers, 2 outfielders, and an extra first baseman.

Hopefully, they will sign someone soon . I'm not too thrilled to continue watching starters go flying off the free agent board and see the Rangers sitting on their thumbs .

But as a pithcer, why would they want to sign there, At least the bigger free agents? That park has a way to inflate stats and ruin careers ..

There isn't really that much left in the FA pool as far as quality SP is there? Either way I agree with wr, unless they're going to pay an incredible amount I couldn't see many big name pitchers going to TEX unfortunately. They've got a great young offense and decent fielding (I think), if they could somehow move out of that park.

Yeah, Zimmerman had his 2nd Tommy John surgery awhile back. Slated for May at the earliest now.

Hidalgo could put up some nice numbers in the Ballpark, but I'd rather have a solid starter.

Staff is currently:

Kenny Rogers-----Can we say old, and not a staff ace?
Ryan Drese-------Like what I saw last year. Hope he continues to improve.
Chan Ho Park-----Gotta trot him out there with what he's being payed.

Then it's anyone's guess......Benoit, Colby Lewis, Dickey, Wasdin, etc. Not great options at all.

I'd rather see one of the kids get the spot over him. They are saying the offer is a minor league deal, so hopefully he will either sign with someone else, or be stuck down at AAA for the year.

He will get a chance in Spring Training, but I'd say the odds of him landing a starting job are slim. I think Benoit, Lewis, and Dickey will be fighting for the two spots with Benoit and Lewis as the favorites (in my opinion of course).

As to what I think of him, it's hard to say. I haven't really seen enough of him yet. His single A ball numbers were good, but his AA numbers left a lot to be desired. His AAA numbers were very nice, but he wasn't there that long. His 7 games after being called up last year were not very good either, but it's a small sample size.

The jury is still out on him for me, but if he doesn't land a starting job (and I'd say he probably won't), then going back to AAA for awhile wouldn't hurt anything I don't think.

Rogers, Drese, and Chan Ho will definitely have spots. Not sure if that gets a or a . Lol. Our rotation is so sad.

I don't think Astacio has any chance in the world of landing a starting spot though. Most likely AAA for him, plus it was a minor league deal he signed with an invite to spring training.
