The best combination of musicians to ever play together, Alex Lifeson is without question the best guitarist to ever play in an arena, Neil Peart is often a unanimous choice for the best drummer in history and the world's greatest songwriter and Geddy Lee is, well, Geddy Lee. Rush started playing together in the 60s but did not rise to greatness until the additon of Peart in 1975 and the release of Fly By Night. The masterpiece 2112 came out in 1976 and it has been uninterrupted greatness ever since.
Rush also puts on one of the best shows that you could ever see.

Calos Santana is a guitarist who had a band. He was ok I guess.

Gotta respect what Rush does, and has done for decades. Three musicians who do some incredibly intense and innovative stuff. They are one of the great arena-rock-acts of all time.
I voted for Rush, but I'm not slighting Santana in any way. An enigma, Santana is basically Carlos, and a revolving door of TOP musicians (that includes lead singers). All the while, the revolving door stops to produce excellent music. Plenty of great Santana tunes (some 30 years old) are heard on classic rock radio to this day, and still sound fresh and cool.
In fact, in terms of radio airplay, (at least here in Boston) I think Santana is played far more often than Rush. But there are soooo many die-hard Rush fans here. Not so many die-hard Carlos followers.
Rush vs. Santana is kind of an apples vs. oranges comparison. They're both excellent, just very different.
I give a slight nod to Rush, if for no other reason, but that Geddy appeared on Bob & Doug Mckenzie's "The Great White North" album back in the early 80s.
HHahaa you silly canadian! I vote Rush...Neil is the sickest drummer....and Im a big danny carey of tool fan who loves Neil...anyways Santana is good...but Rush Is canadas power trio and they rock.....
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
But maybe somebody can tell me something - did the title of Santana's album Abraxas come from the Herman Hesse book Demian or did they both grab the name from somewhere else?

Seen them countless times. The best show was at Jones Beach Theater, outside, on the water. It was a foggy night that night. I thought the way the fog rolled in across the stage was pretty cool.
Santana's cool and he plays a tasty guitar, but this vote is obvious.
PS: I think Santana should have been left off this poll for the same reasons Jimi was.
I wonder who Zig voted for in this poll. Oh, wrong guy, sorry!
