when Smoltz converts back to starter, is anyone worried about how it would effect his health? .. i know alot of people say its better for his arm, but i cant help thinking of two relievers who recently made the switch
Byung Hyun Kim
Rafael Soriano
Soriano was the #1 starter for the Dominicans in the winter leagues last year, so he was used alot as starter right after his great RP stint with the mariners. and then this year he went down of course... and we all know what happened to Kim
i know Smoltz has been around alot longer then these 2, so maybe im being paranoid.. are there any other RP to SP switches to compare to?

He wasn't a prolific reliever like Smoltz though. And I thought he was more of a long relief type as opposed to a closer.

its good enough for me... Soriano was used alot like Santana was as RP, but i guess maybe its better to compare Smoltz to just closers?

True. I was just trying to narrow it to closers since the discussion was about Smoltz.

i dont get all the hype around smoltz going back to the rotation. He was a great starter 5 years ago, but he's much older now and has suffered alot of injuries since he last started. Ill be surprised if he goes deep into alot of games. Should put up ok numbers, but he'll get drafted too high based on his name recognition. Im staying away. Plenty of better options
welcome home andy
