Just kidin... but I think it's a bit much for him. Strange for Theo to throw that much cash at hm though Surely he didn't get the NTC. One of Boston's best moves was having that clause in Manny's contract that he gets a NTC if any ther Red Sox does. That way when they're negotiating saying they can't include a NTC the player and his agent know it isn't political BS used as a bargaining chip, they know they actually can't use it - or won't use it, however you wanna look at it.

Not to change the subject, but after this year doesn't Manny become a 5 and 10 Guy thus essentially having a NTC. If this is true it might make sense as to why they are trying to move him.
this is the way I see it. Theo signed varitek at 8 million a year market value and then another 2 million a year for leadership. Being a huge Red Sox fan, I realize how much he means to the team. He is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen play the game and he is great in the community. Overall, for what varitek does for the team, he deserves the other 2 million
Varitek is well worth the 10 million he is getting. I mean this guy is the undisputed leader of the Red Sox, no questions asked. He handles pitchers like no one else, works hard, never complains, and he puts up exceptional offense numbers to top it all off. Good move, Theo.
