Sources have confirmed to the AP and the Contra Costa Times that the Giants and Moises Alou have agreed to a two-year deal. The AP reports that deal is worth $13.25 million and contains $500,000 in incentives. The second year is a player option. It's possible that the deal won't be finalized until next week. How come when Alou is rumored to go to the Mets all you guys talk about how old he is and what a bad move it is. But when he signs with the Giants all you guys say that its a great bat to add to the lineup and there is almost no criticism of that ridiculous contract. Too much Met hating on this board.
alou isnt propelling the giants to a WS. They needed a younger impact hitter or a stud SP. Giants will not win the NL west. They really do make the most bizzare moves. Guys like delgado, Mags and Beltran are out there, and they get Pee Hands
Let me be the voice of the cafe: Whipty freaking dooo
Moises is still a solid hitter, but he's AWFUL in the field (especially throwing the baseball) and a HORRIBLE base runner (he was doubled off the bases 10 times (if not more) I believe -- who gets doubled off the bases that many times?).
If the Cubs could of gotten him back for a year at $3 million, perhaps (but I think everyone knew that wasn't happening). But I'm glad they didn't because he's a clubhouse cancer (along with Sosa). Veterans are supposed to be leaders, but all Moises did in Chicago is stir the pot and moan & bitch along with that Domincan dipshit Sosa.
I dont really understand this move. Sure, maybe Sabean thinks reuniting father and son will improve team chemistry and maybe spark Moises for one last productive year, but I doubt that will happen. Moises will be decent, but not great, only marginally better than Dustin Mohr overall (who, BTW, the giants just let go ). That $6.75 million per could have gone toward Magglio or even a stud young pitcher. Hopefully Sabean is right, but I doubt it this time.
Last off-season I asked for the Giants to sign Vlad for x-mas. This year I realized that the Giants would not be signing any names to get excited about. Just lower your expectations and trust Sabean. It is way less stressful.
P.S. Keep in mind that Moises was making 9.5 million the last two seasons.
