They saved cash, hopefully found another decent lefty they can use to their advantage at PNC, and maybe found a leadoff man for the time being. The problem is that I doubt Lawton will be staying for much longer than one year and he's over 30 anyway.
Signing Santiago wasn't my favorite decision either. The Pirates need to realize they have to go young and hope the team develops with a nice core group. That's how Minnesota is doing it, and they're contending for the division every year. I'd say their division is a little weaker than the NL central, though.
I'm hoping Cota ends up catching 80 - 100 games and Santiago gets the rest.
