First Round Pitchers

I don't like selecting pitchers in the first round, especially in a keeper. Bats are a lot more predictable than pitchers. All of the sure thing pitchers (RJ, Clemens, Schill, Pedro) are too old for the first round of a keeper. None of the younger arms are sure things.

I would cross my fingers and hope like hell that Beltre and Abreu fall to 14 and 15. Then I would wait a few rounds (like you have a choice) and try to snag Halladay and Ollie Perez to anchor your staff.

oh im not saying im going to take sheets. Im hoping he slips to my 3rd round pick at #42 then ill probably take him. If prior is still left at #14 he will probably be the only one I take. It just worries me about all the young pitchers getting hurt. So I might just take 2 hitters and then pitchers for my 3rd and 4th round picks. What is your guys' thoughts on maybe taking a combo of Helton and Miguel cabrera for #14 and #15.

Id go after Beltre at that pick - Certainly before Cabrera.

I am in the same boat as Mookie - a combo of Abreu and Beltre would be an incredible base to build off of. Prior would be my other option.

Chalk me up as one of those who doesn't like to draft pitchers early, I would most likely go back-to-back with a couple bats.

The only SP I'd even consider here with the 14 or 15th pick is Mark Prior. I doubt Helton will be available there, but you might be able to get Miguel Tejada and/or Alfonso Soriano. I would also strongly consider Manny Ramirez with one of those picks as well. IMO, I'd much rather start my team with two of those stud offensive players than a young, unproven SP.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.
