Probably had to overpay to get him to leave STL. I think it's a good move for the Sox.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Im glad they got him but I agree it is an overpay. Seems like everyone is overpaying for the FA's this year.

Yup, thanks to Kris Benson.

I like this move. Hell, it's not my money, and him hitting behind Damon, Bellhorn, Manny and Ortiz will be very pretty.

Now, the question is, do we trade Hanley for a Pedro fill in?

Considering guys like Guzman and Vizquel are getting 5 million, 10 is no shock at all for Renteria. Seems fine to me.

i would assume thats the way stl is leaning right now.

and yeah i think thats a bit much. edgar should easily get around 100 rbi if he is batting 6th or so but just about any .280 hitter would have a decent shot at that if he were batting 6th in that lineup.

So much for being comfortable where you play. The salary won't help the Cards with Cabrera as he'll base what he wants off this deal. If $32/4 years is what they offered Renteria, they better expect Cabrera will want at least that.

A very good point. He'll be fun to watch, that's for sure.

A tad high for my liking but as is the consensus, you have to overpay to get what you want this offseason.

Now let's get some pitching in the fold, whether it means opening the wallets or putting Hanley and Arroyo and whoever else it takes on the block.
