Juan Cruz got a better shot at the Atl rotation now?

Seems like he might, with Byrd gone. I've seen his name mentioned a couple of times as a possible 5th starter. Thoughts?
Bah, humbug.

Lots of walks...lots of batting practice. Man has never had any control.

If given a shot he could be a pitcher who excels under Mazzone. We have to remember he is still very young and will only be 24 next season. Right now the rotation looks like Smoltz /Hampton /Thomson /H.Ramirez and then for the 5th spot between Cruz/Meyer or if the trade for Hudson....

30 walks 70 ks in 72 IP - could be the next Ollie Perez??

Good sleeper - I've always liked him.

As have I. I think that he is better suited for the bullpen right now.

Career:
275 IP 249 Hits 134 BB (roughly 1 /2 IP) 255 K 1.4 WHIP
Tanked as a SP with the Cubs

Ks are nice, not much else.

He's young and has explosive stuff. That's a good start. Last season's stats were very good. There's a pretty good lefty out in Arizona (for now) that had some control problems in the beginning of his career and got over it pretty well. :-)

Don't look at his career stats. He's only 26 and was brought up too young. If you know him, you know that he has the stuff, it's just the control that was missing - he seemed to harness his stuff for all of last year. He is a lot like Perez.
