No matter where he gets traded (if he gets traded) it will purely be a salary dump. His contract is an albatross.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
He may be getting 5M more than he is worth, but I truly find it amazing that a guy with his hitting skills is being treated like he has a Giambi Contract. If he was a free agent today, he likely gets 14-15 M a year. What is the big deal for the Red Sox? That 5 M burning a hole in someone's pocket? Beltran will get 15+ also in all liklihood. You get what you pay for.
I can't see him going anywhere. He's about the only sure thing so far for the Sox in '05. Pedro's gone, Schilling may not be back for the start of the year, who knows where Varitek will end up (more than likely with BOS but I thought that about Pedro too).
And spend it on who? They think Edgar Renteria and Matt Clement or guys like that are going to give them better numbers? They suddenly become an 80M a year team instead of 125M +?

They dumped Pedro on the Mets and from I've read they are trying to do like wise with Manny
They lost Pedro to the Mets and if the deal for Manny that was discussed goes through, I would be grinning from ear to ear. Yes the contract is enormous but the Mets could absorb it for that kind of talent.
