Giants Catchers

ok, personally i dont think the giants are gonna keep three catchers this good around and not do anything with them. There must be a reason for sabean to do this, maybe its a smaller part of a big plan. One of the moves i think they could make is to trade one of the 3 catchers to the royals and maybe snow in exchange for sweeney. any other ideas of what sabean could do from here or was it just a dumb move?

My guess is they'll either trade AJ or non-tender him. I highly doubt they keep AJ, Matheny and Yorvit next year, especially as AJ will likely command a salary of $4M+ ($3.5M in 2004).

From what I understand the writing is on the wall with AJ--one way or another, he's gone. (He must have managed to annoy everyone in the organization by now...)Royals sound like a good guess to me.

As far as I know, Yorvit isn't going anywhere...

Assistant GM Ned Colletti said he received a too expensive multiyear offer from Pierzynski's agent 10 days ago. If the Giants can't sign him to a long-term deal, they likely will trade him or let him go as a free agent.

I'd rather have a workhorse and gold glover like a Matheny who's gotten the most out of his pitchers at 3Mill/year than AJ at 4Mill/year.

Didn't the Royals get John Buck in the Beltran deal last summer to take over as their full-time catcher?

I bet the Giants will trade A.J. for prospects. Given that he is due for another raise in arbitration, he will not have that much trade value, especially as there is also talk that the Giants will simply non-tender the catcher.

Expecting the Giants to put together a catcher trade that will greatly improve the outlook of the 2005 squad seems a little wishful to me.
