Dec 13 Arizona has signed Counsell to a two-year, $2.8-million contract, the Arizona Tribune reports.

Recommendation: The D-Backs therefore have a new double-play combo with 2005, with Royce Clayton at shortstop and Counsell at second base. The signings thus reduce Matt Kata and Alex Cintron to utility infielder status, and Cintron could wind up being offered in trade talks.

2.8 million isn't bad for a guy that can play many positions. He only had like 8 or 9 errors at SS last year. That's not too shabby...

Horrible hitter, bad defense.... yuck. I'd have just stuck with Contron or Kata. At least those 2 have upside. You know what you get with Counsell; bad OBA, an even lower SLG (very few are capable of doing this; perhaps that was a selling point ), and below average defense.

Counsell may not be a total disaster in his own right, but their off season has been a train wreck. I realyl don't think that anyone on this board could have done a worse job.
