Anyone know the meaning behind hot stove referring to the winter meetings?

Of course other than the obvious, thanks for the "warning things up" But it had to come from somewhere, anyone know when it was first used or from what source. It has to have some origin

I always thought it was a term used to describe baseball talk in the winter time. When baseball is over usually our fires are starting to die down so the winter meetings help to heat up our enthusiasm for the game that's why it's called "Hot Stove". I think the term was first used in 1886 in the book "Spirit of the Times"
