I admit that I wanted to have one Canadian band on each side of the draw. Rush on one side and it came down to the Guess Who and The Band on the other side. This is not to say that the Guess WHo is not deserving - they are one of the most underrated bands in history. "Undone" and "These Eyes" have some of the most haunting vocals that you will ever hear. Canadian legend Burton Cummings (yes Rico, his name is Cummings) teamed up with BTO frontman Randy Bachman to form the band in the late 60's. They were the biggest band in the world for a few years and were specifically requested by Prince Charles to performe at a White House function (Pat Nixon told them NOT to sing American Woman). They broke up in the 70s and all of the band members went on to have long careers on their own.

Black Sabbath
Before he had his own show on MTV, and even before he hit the road with Randy Rhoads, Ozzy Osborne had a band called Black Sabbath. This little band started something called Heavy Metal. They were the first band to sell their souls for rock and roll - and we liked it. The band released its first 2 albums in 1970. Sabbath essentially died in 1977 when Ozzy left but the name sold so they kept touring with different singers and musicians for many years to come. Sabbath were pioneer and made some of the best music, let alone heavy metal, ever. Even though I never saw them perform live I hear that they also put on a great show (forget about the chicken heads).
